Professional Experience

May 1983-February 2002 Landmark Systems Corporation Reston, VA

In 1983 along with my partner, Patrick McGettigan, I founded Landmark Systems Corporation, a software company which provided packaged software solutions to manage large-scale computer systems. During its early years Landmark experienced rapid growth with strong sales of our product in both domestic and international markets. We expanded our product line with several successful new products. In the early 1990’s, we were affected by the economic recession, changes in the IBM Mainframe market, and rapidly emerging new technologies that required us to make some key strategic changes. In the mid-90’s we were again experiencing solid growth and took the company public on the NASDAQ exchange. We survived the "tech crash" and the company was acquired by ASG Software in 2002.

1994 – 2002 CEO

In 1994 I assumed the position of CEO. We continued to grow our product line with strategic acquisitions and continued internal development, acquired several of our international distributors to establish direct operations in most foreign markets, raised outside capital, expanded into new markets, and executed an IPO in 1997. Our revenues grew to $60 million with 330 employees and over 2000 customers around the world.

1986 – 1993 Sr. Vice President

During this phase I was primarily responsible for product development and customer support. After the success of our initial product, we introduced several new products, each one achieving success in an increasingly competitive marketplace. During this time we also encountered more serious competitive pressure, saw a downturn in our market and experienced a severe economic recession. Our revenue, customer base, and headcount continued to grow as we adjusted our strategy to meet the challenges we encountered.

1983 – 1986 Founder and Vice President

During our start-up phase I established domestic and international sales channels, implemented the company’s operational and financial procedures, performed hands-on product development and QA testing, built a customer support operation, and developed marketing and product packaging materials.

September 1975-May 1983 Blue Cross/Blue Shield NCA Washington, D.C.

Held various positions in computer operations, help desk support, and systems programming, culminating in becoming a Sr. Systems Programmer. It was during this time that a co-worker and I developed the beginnings of the software upon which Landmark was founded. Working with the Blue Cross management, we engineered a deal to obtain intellectual property rights to the software in exchange for licensing considerations and royalty payments to Blue Cross. We continued to work with Blue Cross as a partner for many years after our departure.
